Stay off those blacklists

Tom Wanat - Thursday, January 28, 2010
From time-to-time everyone gets a bounced email, or worse, the person you're trying to reach mysteriously never receives your message. This could be a sign you've fallen onto a blacklist.

This can happen for a number of reasons that have nothing to do with the content or volume of your messages. For instance, sometimes the IP address assigned by your ISP can end up on a blacklist because of action by someone else with the same ISP.

Hilltop's help desk can make quick work of diagnosing which, if any, blacklists you may be on, and go through the steps to get the situation resolved. We're also going to inspect your systems to make sure there's not a local problem, like a virus or security hole, that can lead to getting right back on to a blacklist.

An easy to use tool for checking blacklists is MXToolbox.com. Remember to check the specific IP address of your mail server on their blacklists page and set up a monitoring notification.

If you need help finding your server's public IP or checking your organization's outbound-email settings contact Hilltop. We're happy to help.

Hilltop introduces InSight Backup

Tom Wanat - Tuesday, January 19, 2010
Hilltop is proud to announce a great new backup solution that we've designed specifically to meet our customer's needs.

Part of our InSight family of services, InSight Backup is a fully-automated backup system that keeps regular, reliable copies of your data in two places for safety and convenience. InSight Backup addresses both the file recovery and disaster recovery needs of our clients without compromise.

Unlike purely virtual backup solutions, we install a local backup server in your office so missing files can be recovered quickly -- no matter how big. In the event one of your servers fails completely, the local backup allows our administrators to exactly restore the system within hours or even create a temporary, virtual server to quickly get employees productive again.

All data is automatically replicated to Hilltop's state-of-the-art data center, so in case of a major flood, fire, or other disaster the remote data is kept safe without the need to carry drives, disks, or tapes home.

Hilltop has set up several clients with InSight Backup over the last few months, and at its core, InSight Backup is based on Acronis, an industry leader in backup software trusted by companies for years. We think you'll agree InSight Backup is the best all-around backup and disaster-recovery solution.

InSight Backup plans for Hilltop's managed-service clients start at $250 a month for up to 200GB of data. Contact Jim Turner to get started.

Safe giving options

Tom Wanat - Friday, January 15, 2010

The Haitian earthquake and resulting humanitarian emergency has, unfortunately, brought with it no shortage of online scams.

To ensure your donation gets to the right place, and avoid any potential computer infection or data theft be sure to use a reputable Web site and avoid texting numbers you don't know. Here are two reputable sites:

As a local business, Hilltop is making a special donation of supplies directly to the Haitian Embassy. Information about Survival Kit Drives is available at http://haiti.org
